Chapman / Leonard Introduces the Olympian II

Los Angeles,CA     Broadcast engineers will see the results of the new Olympian II during this football season. We think they’ll like what they see - a stable picture with fast, agile movement that stays up with the action on the field.

All major components are engineered for the Olympian II so that its profile, closeup or even from a distance, remains unobstructive to the audience. The shape of the Telescoping Pyramid Column provides trim lines. The column rises in a straight line to 12’ 9” (platform height), capable of a 2,000 pound payload.

The Olympian II with its sleek profile and agile speed allows it to keep up with the action. Convenient placement of the camera and operator allows full control of the unit from within the 72” platform.

The Olympian II’s straight telescoping tower keeps the payload to the center of the unit, where the payload (operator and camera) is evenly distributed. This transfers weight to the best physical point on the chassis, enhancing the Olympian’s outstanding stability.

The new 72” platform rests on a framework of tapered steel telescoping columns to support the operator and camera. The Olympian II’s components disassemble, allowing a minimum width of 34.5” for easy storage on transportation trucks. The platform disassembles as well. By removing the sideboards around the 72” platform, then placing them in the slot on the center column, reduces the width of the platform to maintain the 34.5” width for transportation.

The hydraulic lifting system on the Olympian II is configured to the rear of the chassis for simplified accessibility during operation.

In addition to the physical changes on the Olympian II, internal improvements have been made, such as an adjustable hydraulic stop valve to dampen vertical moves for the camera operator’s comfort and to insure smooth stops during an up or down boom. Batteries are always guaranteed a full charge with a new charging system that can operate on either 110 v or 220 v.

Power from the motor is transmitted through a drive system that efficiently converts the electrical energy into torque at the wheels. A hallmark of this improved efficiency is that the Olympian II runs silently and can be used on sound stages for film production.

Truly a swift unit, the Olympian II is capable of down field sprints of 13’ per second. The crane offers 4.5” of ground clearance and a minimum turn radius of 8’ 3”.

Safety always reflects in Chapman / Leonard products and stands out in the Olympian II’s outrigger cable draggers, wheel skirts and ample padding for operation on sports sidelines. The shooting platform is protected by a mandatory 360 degree, 38” high guardrail.
