Chapman Salutes Elvis and the Three Tenors

Memphis, Tenn. Chapman / Leonard Studio Equipment sent an impressive arsenal of camera support equipment to cover Polygram Diversified's first Elvis Tribute, sanctioned by the Presley Estate.  Included in the package were 3 of Chapman's new Pedolly® Pedestals, 2 Hy Hy® Crane Arm Bases and over 600 feet of track.   All of the items were sent from our Los Angeles facility.

The performers in the show all sang favorite Elvis' tunes in front of a full house at the Pyramid Arena.   Lisa Marie and Michael Jackson attended the event.

The Hy Hy's® and the Pedollies® were both used on track and turned out to be a very impressive show of Chapman products in the center of the Arena.  The Pedolly® has the unique ability to be used as a conventional studio pedestal and rolls right on straight or curved dolly track.  We enjoyed dealing with Alan Kelman and Ilene Bernstein from Polygram Diversified, as well as, Technical Director, John Field, and Key Grip, Mike Boclaire. We look forward to working with them again.

In addition to the Elvis Tribute, Chapman Studio Equipment, Inc. had the honor of being part of a rare combining of operatic heavyweights in providing camera support equipment for "Encore:  The Three Tenors Concert."  The historical concert event took place on July 16, 1994, at Dodger Stadium and featured opera greats, Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras.

The Rudas Organization and G. C. & Company consulted with Chapman prior to final selection of the equipment to be certain that this rare opportunity would be properly captured on screen.  The final selection of equipment took many different factors into consideration:  The need for stability utilizing cameras with a long lens, minimum profile, allowing little interference of audience viewing, ability to move the equipment up onto the stage via stairs and the need to transport all the equipment across the field at the stadium.   After these and many other considerations were weighed, the decision was made to use Jib Arms mounted on Chapman Hy Hy® bases; a Pedolly® was to be used behind the chorus and focus was to be mainly on Conductor, Zubin Mehta.   Two Olympian dollies were used to achieve adequate lens height from the center of the audience and two Sidewinders were placed near the stage at each end. For the long sweeping shots above the audience from the rear of the stadium, a Lenny Arm II mounted on a Hy Hy® base, with a Nettman Cam-Remote, was given the assignment.

56,000 people came to see this mega-event, complete with 40 foot waterfalls, Roman columns, palm trees and tropical vegetation to add effect. Every detail was handled meticulously by G.C. & Company along with the Rudas Organization.
