Los Angeles--Leonard Chapman accepted the 1996 Fuji Gold Medal Award from the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers during a reception Oct. 11 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

The award recognizes outstanding engineering achievements in the design and development of new or enhanced equipment that has contributed significantly to the advancement of photographic or electronic image origination. Specifically, Chapman was chosen for the design and manufacturing of the Hustler and PeeWeeŽ Dollies, as well as, the Titan family of camera cranes.

"This is a great honor because it comes from my peers," Chapman said. "Recognition is always nice, but, it means something more when it comes from people of the same profession."

The SMPTE presents a number of awards annually in recognition of outstanding achievements, including the Journal Certificate of Merit, Eastman Kodak Gold Medal Award, John Grierson International Gold Medal Award, David Sarnoff Medal Award, Herbert T. Kalmus Gold Medal Award and Samuel L. Warner Memorial Medal Award.
