Blast From the past.....

vol5issue4.gif (22685 bytes)

Can you guess what film this production shot was from...give up...it's from the sci fi futuristic film, Logan's Run.  This 1976 MGM feature film was produced by Saul David, directed by Michael Anderson, and starred Michael York, Jenny Agutter, Richard Jordan, Farrah Fawcett-Majors and Peter Ustinov.   The film's setting is a perfect world of total pleasure in the 23rd century.   The only thing you can't have is your 30th birthday.  On Lastday, senior citizens (30 year olds) must go through the ritual of "renewal," where a fiery carousel spins them into oblivion.  Michael York is a Logan Runner seeking refuge from Carousel. He runs for his life, escaping to the outside world. Logan's Run won an Oscar for Best Special Effects, which include the first film use of laser beam holography and is an ingenious insight into tomorrow.  The photograph, above, depicts the scene of the futuristic city from outside the biosphere..where everything is enclosed under the domes pictured...life outside the domes was non existent...or so they thought!   The scene used a Chapman Zeus Stage Crane with the Kenworthy Snorkle setup.   The production still, below, depicts the futuristic city within the domes (all done in miniatures)...here we see the Kenworthy Snorkle System mounted on the end of a Titan Mobile Crane with the 12 foot extension.

Orlando Studio & Production center Update

It's an Action Packed Summer For Chapman's Orlando Stage....

Ovaltine commercial
ABOVE: The BBDO Agency from
London along with David Bishop Production
Services from Ft. Lauderdale, shoots an Ovaltine
Commercial on the Chapman Stage in
Orlando.  The commercial used a
Lenny Arm to catch the action.

Orlando, FL--Chapman's East Coast Facility has stayed busy in the last few months with a whirlwind of stage activity.  Recent stage clients have included Nickelodeon Studios for Gullah Gullah Island Rehearsals, Alpha Wolf Productions, "Baby Shiver" spot, In Re Specere's Weustoff Hospital shoot and a David Freers Photography still shoot for Budget Trucks.  The Steve Miller band's lighting, design, and production crew made their annual summer sojourn to the Chapman Stage to prep and rehearse the technical elements for their next tour.  Chas Herrington produced his lighting magic and promises to add an exciting element to one of the best rock and roll shows on the road.

July was a busy time for the 9,000 square foot stage.  The schedule included spots for Shoe Carnival (EMM), and Ovaltine (David Bishop Productions), as well as, a Time/Life Infomercial (Visual Dimensions). Also, July saw AFI, of Miami, shoot commercials for the new Animal Planet Cable Network on the Chapman Stage.  For more information about the Chapman Stage, call (888) 337 8243.
