Chapman/Leonard's Seminar Wrap-ups

Rob Primes

Robert Primes, ASC Sets up shots for attendees at the Chapman/Leonard seminar held in North Nollywood and San Francisco this March.

North Hollywood, CA-"Here's the shot; You are to follow the actor as he enters a cavernous room from bright sunlight. He walks to a large buffet table, pours coffee and then pauses? You must pull in close at the table to catch his expressions. Then, pull back through a second door, leading the actor's exit. This will be a medium shot expanding to a long establishing shot followed by a swift boom up to the 18-foot roof", explains Robert Primes, ASC.

One-hundred fifty industry professionals watched how to film this continuous (no-cutaways -allowed) scene using Chapman/Leonard's newest equipment at a March 14 seminar. Robert Primes, ASC, employing the latest in remote cameras, first demonstrated the moves. The invited guests, made up of industry representatives, film students and the academic community, got to operate the equipment themselves.

Laurel Moje, a Santa Barbara-based producer spent the better part of the day walking through the array of film gear. She said, "We were at ShowBiz Expo and some of the equipment looked pretty flimsy. These here look sturdy and smooth. We are really glad you put this on."

Technical specialists from Chapman/Leonard demonstrated every type of crane, dolly, pedestal, crane arm, base and remote camera system at the North Hollywood headquarters. Most pieces were mounted with cameras to simulate real production circumstances so seminar attendees could work the gear and be guided through by experts. Better yet, they got answers relating to their work and project requirements. The event is planned for other cities in the near future. Announcements will be mailed to Chapman/Leonard customers and through local industry representatives.

Toyota Commercial Shot in Orlando for Saatchi & Saatchi

Orlando, FL-

The scene? A busy automobile showroom. Customers and salespeople move between gleaming models, some of which are perched on pedestals to better display their metallic beauty. The effect is just what the Greater New York Toyota Dealers Association sought when they contracted the filming of 5 half-minute television spots.
